Who is this service for?
- Individuals who must file a Self Assessment return (sole traders, landlords, those with untaxed income, CGT, etc.). [gov.uk]
- Sole traders and landlords coming into MTD for Income Tax based on qualifying income thresholds.
Two ways we help:
Standard Self-Assessment Tax Return (if MTD doesn’t apply to you)
We prepare and file your online Self Assessment return, bringing together all your income, reliefs and claims, then submit to HMRC and give you a clear payment summary.
What we’ll handle:
- Employment (PAYE) income, self‑employment, property income, interest, dividends, pensions, benefits, student loan, and more.
- Capital Gains (shares, property disposals) within your annual return.
- Deadlines & payments: file online by 31 January and pay any balance due by the same date (payments on account may apply with a 31 July second instalment).
What you get:
- Your filed online return with HMRC receipt, SA302 tax calculation and “what to pay & when” summary.
- Proactive reminders for 31 January / 31 July deadlines.
MTD for Income Tax (ITSA)
If your qualifying income (combined gross self‑employment and property income) is over £50,000 from 6 April 2026 or over £30,000 from 6 April 2027 (with plans to extend to £20,000 thereafter), you must keep digital records, use recognised software, send quarterly updates, and submit the year‑end return (Final Declaration) through software.
How MTD works:
- Quarterly updates: short summaries of your self‑employment/property income and expenses must be filed.
- Final Declaration: after year‑end, you add other income (employment, interest, dividends, pensions, CIS suffered, etc.), apply reliefs, and submit your digital Self Assessment via software by 31 January.
- Payment timings: you still settle your tax by 31 January with payments on account where relevant.
What our MTD service covers:
- MTD Registration & Setup: Confirm your start date and eligibility, sign you up to MTD ITSA, arrange agent authorisation, and set up recognised software with digital links.
- Quarterly Submissions: Prepare and file all four quarterly updates (separate per income source where required) and manage statutory deadlines.
- Final Declaration (year‑end MTD return): Compile your year’s trading/property figures, add other taxable income (including employment and investment income), reconcile CIS suffered, apply year‑end allowances/reliefs, and submit by 31 January through software.
What you get from Cloudit Bookkeeping
- A done‑for‑you return (SA or MTD) filed on time with HMRC receipts.
- A plain‑English tax summary: what you owe, why, and when to pay.
- Proactive deadline management, reminders, and support for any HMRC queries.
- For MTD clients: compliant digital records and quarterly estimates so there are no January surprises.
FAQs
Do I need to file a Self Assessment return?
Check HMRC’s criteria (self‑employment, rental, untaxed income, CGT, and more). If in doubt, we’ll assess your position and confirm. [gov.uk]
When do I enter MTD for Income Tax?
When your qualifying income (gross self‑employment and property) crosses the HMRC threshold for your phase (from £50k in 2026/27, £30k in 2027/28, with plans for £20k thereafter). We’ll confirm your start date from your previous return.
Do quarterly updates replace my tax return?
No. They’re summaries only. You still complete a Final Declaration via software after year‑end.
Do MTD payments change?
No. You still pay by 31 January (and 31 July if payments on account apply).
I had CIS tax deducted, where do I claim it?
In your Final Declaration (MTD) or on your Self Assessment if you’re not yet in MTD.
I sold a rental property, is that on my tax return?
Yes, but if there’s CGT due, you must also do a separate 60‑day CGT report and payment after completion. We handle both.
